Following the offer of free use of SuperLab till the end of July, it became clear that a solution is needed that would allow researchers to collect data from remote participants. Towards that end, we created SuperLab Remote. It will be available before the end of July.
We do not think that it is possible to obtain precise stimulus presentation or precise RT timing using browser-based online experiments. SuperLab Remote runs as an app on a participant’s computer.
There is a one-time setup and it is straightforward: you specify the location of “run-time software” and a license file that we provide you with.
Afterwards, when your experiment is ready, you click on the File menu and choose Create a SuperLab Remote Package. You will see the following dialog:
Click on the Next… button to specify the name of the remote experiment. SuperLab 6 will then create a .ZIP file that includes your experiment and the SuperLab Remote software that’s needed to run it. You now have a file that is ready to post online, e.g. using your Dropbox account.
We have taken great care to make it simple for participants by eliminating as many steps as necessary. All a participant needs to do is download the ZIP file, click on the SuperLab Remote icon, run the task, and then email you the data. They don’t have to open the experiment file, locate stimuli files, deal with licensing, or specify a data file name.
SuperLab Remote is subscription-based and costs $199/year for the first year and $174 for additional years. Up to five years may be purchased in advance.
None. You can use SuperLab Remote with any number of experiments and any number of participants, anywhere.
